Mills of the Broads
We visit 2 of what must be the most extensive Mill locations accessible on the Broads today. St. Benets (nr Thurne) and Turf Fen (nr Howe Hill) are both packed with potential shots and ample vantage points.
We meet at Cold Harbour near Ludham at dawn there is a 15min walk along the river to our first location of St Benets Level Windpump. Not only is the mill itself very photogenic, with water on 2 sides, but there is also the opportunity to photograph the well known white mill of Thurne across the water.
After a late breakfast (included in price of the workshop), a chance to discuss and for you to ask any questions on what we have done during the morning, it’s off to our second location of How Hill.
How Hill lies on the River Ant within The Broads National Park in Norfolk, England. How Hill is a 365 acre estate, which is a most attractive and unique Broadland landscape, including reed beds, meadows, a small broad, woodlands, a reach of the River Ant, a marshman’s cottage, and three restored windmills. Boardman's windpump a trestle or skeleton windpump, Clayrack Windpump the same, only smaller and just south of How Hill is Turf Fen windpump. We will finish the day here.
The workshop will concentrate on teaching the techniques needed to capture landscape
images in the camera rather than relying on the computer afterwards. With a maximum
of 6 guests per workshop we will have plenty of time for some one-
