Kate Barclay

Kate Barclay is one of a new breed of digital photographers who can marry technology with a natural talent for composition and the capture of light. The reasons Kate’s photography is becoming so sort after is the rare ability to capture the whole feeling of a scene in a single shot. Norfolk is known for its big skies and constantly shifting light patterns which have formed the basis of Kates’s work over the last year. Her career highlights since picking up a camera for the first time 3 years ago are - Runner up in the BBC Country File Children in Need Calendar 2006 competition,  2 images Highly Commended in the Panasonic batteries Amateur Photographer of the Year 2005, Several features in Photography magazines 2006 &2007, Featured photographer in ‘A Guide to Great Photography’ by Peter Bargh, has an image published in the Landscape Photograper of the Year 2007 book. John Duckett

My interest in photography began in my early teens but was never anything more than a casual hobby until my job took me all over  East Anglia when spending time in more rural areas re-stirred my love for seeing how the light can completely change the atmosphere of a landscape

Over the years I have developed my unique atmospheric style through experience and experimentation with different camera settings and filters.  I spent many years using 35mm SLR film cameras.  Over this time I learned the techniques of metering, balancing exposure with filters, depth of field and composition as well as working with the light.  Four years ago I made the conversion from film to digital SLR cameras.  It took a while to adapt to this new technology but I was determined to use my experience of film and still maintain the importance of getting it right in the camera and not relying on the computer afterwards.

More recently I have turned semi-professional and undertake over 20 shows and exhibitions per year selling limited edition photographic prints.  I have work permanently for sale at galleries in Norfolk and am currently working on the first two of what will hopefully be a series of books.
